We’re all here together.

No matter what our differences are, we can understand that we’re in this world together. Every individual has within them the ability to see differences and similarities. However, it’s so enticing to get caught up in how we think we’re different from each other that we forget we are cut from the same cloth. It’s an act of courage and a statement of vulnerability to try and understand someone that comes from a different walk of life. Superficial differences like race, age, and gender are merely our packaging. Within we are people longing for connection with others, yet sometimes are afraid to understand what merely looks different.

Caring for one another can mean doing good deeds for your neighbor, lending a compassionate ear when someone is in need, and countless other things. But caring is also making an effort to understand those who are seemingly different from you. If we can have the courage to cultivate understanding for each other, we will learn that we are more similar than dissimilar. And when we start linking our similarities, we find that there is something to be respected and loved in each individual. Also, through understanding, we become aware of the unspoken reverence that has always existed between human beings. That reverence being a deep reservoir of human love, empathy, and compassion.
