Meditation on Completeness Can Ease Suffering

This practice is called the “I am Complete” Meditation. All you have to do is write down all the things you thought would make you happy, and then follow it up with “…won’t complete me.” Below is my meditation as an example. Also, feel free to respond with some things you thought would make you happy, but only turned out to offer temporary satisfaction.

No person’s love, attention, or validation can complete me… I am. No outer goal can complete me. No amount of money can complete me. Having sex with beautiful, sexy women will not complete me. Getting attention from them will not complete me. Endlessly pursuing knowledge will not complete me. A house will not complete me. Job promotions will not complete me. Praise will not complete me. Validation will not complete me. Being smart will not complete me. Big muscles will not complete me. Being a hero will not complete me. Being a/the “chosen one” will not complete me. No status gained will complete me. There is no status.

Becoming a monk will not complete me. Studying with monks will not complete me. Becoming more spiritual, religious, devout, or chaste will not complete me. Traveling and teaching monks English will not complete me. It could bring me joy, communion, and new gratitude. It could…
