Surrendering to Love
What is within us, yet bigger than ourselves?
Spiritual awakening isn’t about climbing a mountain or following an arduous path. It’s about removing the obstacles we’ve placed in our way and realizing what our true nature is. Spiritual growth is accomplished through subtraction, not addition.
By subtracting all the external and internal clutter in our lives and being, we’re able to discover ourselves — discover the guru, the healer, the unconditional lover that lives within us. We are it. We forget because as we go through trauma and social programming, our innate care for others and connection with God becomes shrouded.
We fool ourselves.
We think by learning practices and techniques, visiting certain places, observing certain holidays or feasts, praying and worshipping to the right gods or gurus will get us to where we want to go. But all of these are activities characterized by addition.
A teaching is truly valuable if it teaches that what we have within us is enough.
I’ve read about and practiced so many spirituality and mindfulness techniques. And you know what? Just about all of them don’t stick.
One thing sticks, and I’ve its been inside me all along. It’s Love.
