Are You Addicted to Feelings? The Quest for Wholeness
Understanding this could help you realize freedom in your life.
I was doing some thinking about desire, seeing how so many of us go about this world trying to fulfill a seemingly infinite number of desires. And I thought, “What is the most basic desire; what is the most fundamental desire; what is the secret desire from which all other desires come forth?” You see, a big problem is that oftentimes we actually mislabel desires.
Sometimes we get a craving for sex, or a craving to consume someone and we think, “Oh, I really want them. I want sex now.” But in this instance, it’s not about sex; it’s about a desire for connection. A desire to feel good. A desire to feel good enough. Sometimes it’s as simple as a desire to be entertained, which is actually a desire for pleasure. Because so much now just to sit and be in silence is too scary for us. As I sit here typing this, I could just sit and be… But no. My mind desires something to do, something to focus on. Some kind of “progress” to be made.
